A well-informed and proactive collaboration between a person with multiple sclerosis (MS) and their healthcare team is an important part of managing the disease successfully.

The person with MS should feel able to discuss their values, needs, limitations, lifestyle, treatment goals and the likely disease course with their healthcare professionals. A discussion about the relative convenience, effectiveness, possible side effects and specific safety monitoring of the disease-modifying therapies being considered is also important.
